In April 2009, a proposal has been put forth to have slot games to be installed at horse racing tracks in Atlantic City. However, some of the local politicians of Atlantic City and some casino officials are opposing the plan to install slot machines at the horse racing tracks. The representatives from the horse racing associations as well as horse breeders associations appeared before the New Jersey Assembly and Senate Budget committee to ask the legislators to rethink the idea of using slot machines to increase revenues.According to Joseph Corbo, President of Casino Industry Association of New Jersey, the slot machine plan would cause job losses and affect the state taxes from the casinos. He also felt that Atlantic City was already suffering due to the competition from the neighboring states as well as the financial recession and the introduction of the slot machine scheme would only do more harm than good.
